Message for the Feast of St John Bosco

Monday the 31st of January

Jessica Wilkinson, our Provincial Coordinator,  shares the following message for the Feast of St John Bosco. Happy Feast Day!

The feast of St John Bosco reminds me that our founder, friend and father is a gift for the whole Church, not just the Salesian family.  I give thanks every day for the gift of my faith, especially for the times when I am able to follow Don Bosco’s guidance when he said “Entrust everything to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and to Mary Help of Christians and you will see what miracles are.”

We are assured in last verse of Matthew’s Gospel when the Lord says “I am with you always” (Mt 28:20.)  He is with us, beside us in the best and worst of times, our refuge, rock and stronghold.  He was and is with us in the isolation, separation, frustration, anxiety and loss of the Covid-19 pandemic.  He was and is with us in the joyful reunions, with us in the laughter between friends, with us in the happiness of sharing a meal with loved ones.

Meeting God in every aspect of my life, is for me, a precious gift shown to me by Don Bosco and his Salesians.  The home, the playground, the school and the church are all places where we can encounter Christ.  The Jesus we meet in the Eucharist is the same Jesus who walks with us as we go about our daily lives, who sits with us whilst we watch the Television, who is with us in the people we meet.  On this feast day I give thanks for everyday holiness, the sense of hope that Salesian optimism brings and the gift of St John Bosco who invites us to recognise that Jesus is always with us on the road.
